Appalling results were discovered from our attempts at converting tapes One through Four today. Much philosophizing ensued - but anyway Luddites like it when machines suck. There will be re-recordings on a new technology starting tomorrow. In brighter news, we were able to get tapes Five and Six onto the beputer and, though the quality is muddy, we are elated with those results. Muddy beats appalling. And speaking of bluesmen....
Beputer is a technical term which referes to the technology you're using at this very moment. The term was first used, to my knowledge by a bluesman who toured all over Northern Canada in the early 1980s. For some reason he could not say "com"-puter - but only "be"-puter (and he also said "Muckamozz" when he was referring to the time - as indicated on his Mickey Mouse watch. "That'll be three on muckamawwwwwz.") The bass player in this bluesman's combo related these interesting details to me ages back, and I've since employed the term "beputer" myself because to me it sounds more fitting, rather than the wholly respectful sound of the awkward noun "computer."
