The Void needed a blue pencil

(If this picture came out too fuzzy you can click on it to zoom in I think). In mastering the Burrowings album we realised that the epic piece The Void For Now is a rank bore as it stands. So we took a blue pencil to the original lyrics. At first attempt to make something of this effort we tried, on the fly, to engage the pause button to edit out some of the waste matter collected on magnetic tape. I enjoyed the resulting little zips and the abrupt non- sequitor lyrics on this edited version but Q found it unacceptable. So we compromised and decided to re-do the whole recording, record the vocals separately, add more notes, more oomph, more zsha zhsz zhsa zsha - and take out the kvetching! Also, as you can see, in order to change up some of the delivery, there are some notes for Q to imbue his timbre with various emotional signifiers. He's really good at "Molty-ing" it up but I'm trying to get him to cultivate a passive agressive innocent, coy, type, "Dear in the headlights" manipulator role so that this piece has the emotional tapestry of a Queen/Emerson,Lake and Palmer epic. The "Sebastian" stance is one that Q does very well - this is modelled by the inimitable Sebastian Cabbot who raises our level by his mere countenance. Cabbot is well known to Q for his recitals of "Like a Rolling Stone" and "It Ain't Me Babe."
