Eastern Influences

Thanks to our own Courtney Abdul, Occupant's Officer (East), Occupant is now dwelling in the hearts of two Montre-rock'n'r-allers: une famille, frere et seour who dig Occupant's first release so much they've ordered copies!
Maybe, one day, Occupant will find residency in every dashboard tape deck! However, in this pre-Olympic time one must be extremely careful about the hype one intones in one's public release statements because of the existing federal trademark on every excitable phrase. I don't think you can even whistle without being slapped with a copyright infringement suit. Therefore, we're going to use body language from now on. Our arms are akimbo!

Occupant is One

Today is Occupant's birthday or anniversary. If Occupant is an organism of some kind I guess we're one year old. But if it's an organization of some kind, we're still one year old.

Last April 2 a flood of pop tunes and silliness was recorded to tape and before the end of the month we had a catalogue of over 60 songs. Our little tape deck went kaput and we didn't regain that prolific momentum but we rhizomed! and new combos are taking form.

We marked the occasion today by recording a live set of all the songs on our Dwellings cassette. We haven't played them for a year, so we think it prudent and considerate to spare you the awkward eventuality of hearing the session. However, we will endeavor to bring you a short set of favorites as soon as we decide on what those tunes shall be. Shiny Cocoa is one of them for sure!

Q is a most tolerant person.

Bendover backwahds

TRYING....TRY-ING....Can't....get.....to.....the....point...
I know. You think we're all washed up don't you! Well you could use a little smugness. It'll be our gift to you... Actually in reality we do have something in the can. It's just not safe to release it that's all. Our new piano/harmonica ode to A Man Called Bowie Called Bend Over Backwahds goes like this:

Bend over backwards
Bend over...
Devil doll
Devil in a blue dress
Bend over backward
She's a devil doll
Devil in a blue dress
Twinkle twinkle little star
Shine so bright shine so fah
Bend over backwards
Bend over back
She's a devil doll
Devil Doll devil in a blue dress
Twinkle Twinkle little starlight
Bend over backwards
Bend over backwahhhhhhhhhhhhdzzzz

It's a reaction to a performance we witnessed recently of Bowie and Moby doing a concert for what appeared to be a captive audience in a media tent at some Millionaires' convention. Everyone had one arm thrust into the air and pulsed in unison to some pantry fare that sounded like the kind of music people make when they know everyone's gonna like it no matter what they do. Road hogs on the highway of amusement. And I like Bowie too. I can't have an opinion about Moby because I used to work with someone who claimed to have invented Moby. This person also claimed to be the Canadian Olympic Wind Surfing coach and boasted frequently about being at Cannes (pronounced "con") and speaking for twenty minutes in a row with Blowjob Bartelucci or something like that. If he had affiliated with Moby, then poor Moby. I think his tea shop sounds nice, though.

Note to self...

Here, the complexity of the single note transfixes both elder and younger spanning decades.

Starts off like Iggy, melted wax, and Dinah Shore and then turns left, goes into an electronics surplus store that has every kind of copper wiring you can imagine. You become a conduit for the dreams of glass crows.

This sketched in version of the orginal "Wicked Henry" was requested so we had to post it.

You can hear and smell the Vega faintly in the background. It was mustard yellow.

Our equipment often brings impromptu collaboration in unexpected ways. The condenser mic has its own special reception of the room sound, flattening the dimensions of the room into a plane of new textures. It's hard to imagine the world with no recorded sound. If recorders are extensions of the mechanics of memory, do they replace the purpose of mental activity?

Cubes of Feta: aka "He Flies off the Handle"

http://media.switchpod.com/users/occupant/Cubes_of_feta.wav

Well, old man Bauschlosser's been on my ass to hurry up and post some frikk'n material on the blog, so here is one our finer pieces. Bauschlosser says this version distorts too much, but I think it's perfectly beautiful the way it is.

Our most recent session was nearly ruined by our primitive tape deck. It gobbled the tape sometime during our 'shoegaze' piece. When we gave the cassette mouth-to-mouth with scotch tape and tried to play it again, it was all backwards. This yeilded some truly inspired sounds, no doubt, but I still want to hear the forwards version. I didn't strum that one chord for five minutes for nothing! Bauschlosser flipped it back on his beputer so I'm waiting for him to send it.

Well, I'm aggennit!

Folks gonna think Occupant turned all Eno, they done gone 'sperimennal, loss the human touch what withall the lectris and buzz noises an such. Why, one would think they got naw lyrictitude, naw words left, why, I member when this here webulist page spoused the skeletal beat, the musings in word form, ponderances on corn - koh-i-noor and such. Why only just as far back as a kit was due to a meat rabbit we was sangin this ballad of the one called Wicked Henry. Gone by the tag Wicked Henry nigh 20 some year. And Scott, with one on the way herself, sat perched on seven pillows at the pianobox and callin Wicked Henry! when the time came roun. Though she never knew that rascal, she knew of him and that's what legends are all about. The Stagger Lee of Puslinch, Wicked Henry...

henry was a ramblin man, and his company tweren’t fun
wicked henry, company weren’t fun

henry was a cantank'rous sort afore he's 21
crazy stare did glaze his eyes
ne’er did like no one
crazy stare, didn’t like no one

even tho he was a surly brute he did have some friend
three lads, mom’s vega, did wind and they did a-wend
down to new york, new york town one time

well he packed some tabs of acid and headed on down the line
didn’t take much addin up for customs to smell a crime
in the glovebox, search ensued for crime

well the customs they found nothing but henry was a dork
and henry and the three lads made it to new york
and they got there, eatin with a knife and fork

henry bought some skippy and loaf o wonder bread
wouldn’t eat in rest'rants like a normal man be fed
he a cheapskate - eatin wonderbread

what made him so psychotic lord can only know
as the facts add up the memory’s kinda slow
but he had a neckbeard, and his face did a purplish glow

Heavenly Gooses, Cookie sees Ghosts, 7th fret fiascos and the like (even though those instrumentals aren't alike)have been accruing on non-degaussed, (still gaussed) magnetic tape over the past few weeks as Nello Bauschlosser, dobro vixen and key master, has guest amplificated in our Occupist Studios.

We also celebrated Zappadan with Uovo Birra, and premiered the Heavenly Gooses track for Antonio Abdul back in ought six.

Q is cued to podcast a selection of recent inspirations in due course as St.Ella is saddleshanked for the moment on improvised muscle relaxants.
